I’m sure someone will be along shortly to tell you that there’s nothing to see here, people are getting in to a tizzy about nothing etc. etc. etc.....

Yeah, we were out at Beechworth and the surrounding areas of the weekend.

There currently doesn't seem to be a test that they can apply to the grape to see if the wine will be bad or not.

The Canberra lot can almost guarantee, due to the intensity and volume of smoke that their wine will be bad - hence making the decision not to pick.

The Beechworth lot weren't hit nearly so bad - but they were still hit.  But the only way to see if the wine will be any good is to spend the money picking it and brewing it...

The ones we spoke to still were unsure what to do🤔

Up in the Adelaide hills the vines that were not actually burnt are also affected.  Thankfully the fires happened when many of the grapes were still small and less likely to be affected.  The less juice in them the better for smoke penetration.  Still some growers are still unsure what will happen.

So many wineries ......so little time

It’s a strange one as a few of the wineries around pokolbin have said they have lost an entire crop because of the smoke others have said it’s had no effect.  Time will tell on this one that’s for sure.
