The nurses were talking about it in the hospital today and the director of infectious diseases is not concerned, something about when there was the sars outbreak Australia spent ex amount in protecting itself, yet more people die of flu each year.
‘I suppose he has a point.

If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.

That is a terrible attitude from a health professional.

Is it though? We only hear what the media tell us. Maybe it’s not that bad, I don’t know. In saying that I purchase a number of medical supplies each month and I’ve received newsletters today saying they have or are selling/sold out of face masks.

People need to stop panicking, it rarely kills you unless you are elderly or have pre existing major health promlems.

It's probably another form of flu.  Seasonal flu kills up to 500,000 people worldwide each year,

Scare stories like the bird flu that was going to wipe out continents do not help, this as you say is just another strain of a respiratory virus.

I think the Chinese people tend to play down diseases etc which makes me think this is very serious indeed. Australia is at huge risk because of the number of Chinese people coming in for New Year to see relatives. Anything flu like is pretty serious in my book - antibiotics don’t work well with these viruses. Thinking how many thousands died of flu after World War 1 - almost as many as in the war itself.

The number of students going to universities here are also a concern. I don’t think the Chinese have closed down so many cities lightly.

I'm not understanding @simmo.

You are saying France have it due to open borders.

So why does Aus have it when they don't have open borders?

Anti biotics don't work on any virus. But you can get anti virals.

Where did I say had it because of open borders?

Open borders will not do anything to stop its spreading though.

Grow up, you do realise that as simmo said open borders with no gates are going to let the virus through, even a hole in a border fence will let the crafty buggy through, we all need to wear masks and drink plenty of lime juice, the buggers don’t like lime juice
