joseph1990
I applied for my WHV on the 02/10/2019 - i was completely honest on my application and told them that i had a criminal record and was sent to a young offenders institute when i was 19 - i got a year sentence and served 3 months for good behavior. The conviction was over 10 years ago now and am wondering the likelihood of my being accepted or if there is anything i can do. I was requested to supply extra documents on 28/10 - which i uploaded my police check - character reference from the time off offence as well as recent character references. The application is still at further assessment -
paulhand
A 12 month sentence is considered serious and if they have referred your application to the character consideration unit, then you may be in for a fairly lengthy wait. If you have responded fully to their information request that is the correct way forward, but in situations like this it is always a good idea to seek professional advice from a specialist in these matters. SmileyD
Hi @joseph1990 we are in the same boat as you. we are about to work on our character reference letters. Did you get people to do theirs on stat decs or just signed letters? I can’t find anything that states it has to be a stat dec (except for your own obviously) so just wanted to know what you did? paulhand
Stat Decs are preferable as they have more legal weight.
