Fisher1
Hi all we are in our first trip back to the UK after two years, and we’re told that if we rang the DWP and informed them of our presence in the UK, with dates, they would upgrade our pensions for the period we were here. We have tried several times to ring the DWP but never succeeded in getting through to anyone. Does anyone know if it’s possible to claim a temporary upgrade by post, and if so, who do we write to? thanks in advance. We advise the appropriate department our dates before we leave Oz. Our pensions are increased for the time we are in UK, Obviously it reverts back on your return. We make sure we get every penny!!! I’ll post again later. Edited August 30, 2019 by ramot

ramot
We have always tel 0191 218 7777 and have just tried it and got straight through. They will want your NI number and your flt dates, they might need more information these days, as we didn’t go back last year. Have a great holiday xM

When we arrived back last October, my husband had to provide evidence that we had came back to live in the UK, we had to provide a copy of our tenancy agreement to prove that we were not here on holiday. They actually asked us quite a few questions as to why we had returned to the UK too.

I think you are mistaken - we are entitled to have our pension upgraded while we are here on holiday so we have no need to prove we are living here - we aren’t! We can produce copies of our e- tickets for the flights if we must, naturally we have our NI numbers and the reason we are here is that we are on holiday! All we need to do is speak to someone but they are proving difficult to cont@ct.

That would have been to get the increase permanently, not the temporary holiday one

Well worth remembering this for when I reach pension age ! (wherever I may be in this world) Thanks everyone for this thread.
Currumbin Keith
I was there for 8 weeks last year so I just asked them for a backdated pension upgrade if I provided proof of my flight dates .... here's what they say "You can apply for an increased rate of benefit whenever you are in the United Kingdom (UK)/European Union (EU). We will need to know: • Your full name and home telephone number • The date you are arriving and the date you are leaving • Your nationality • An address and telephone number where you will be staying during your visit. We cannot take this information any earlier than 4 weeks before you arrive in the UK/EU. You must tell us about your visit within 28 days of your arrival in the UK if you do not do so before your arrival. You can call us on 44 191 218 7777 option 4 between the hours of 8am and 7:30pm Monday - Friday (UK time) or you can write to us at: The Pension Service 11 Mail Handling Site A Wolverhampton WV98 1LW United Kingdom WE CANNOT ACCEPT THIS INFORMATION VIA EMAIL - Yours Sincerely Cheryl"
