I don’t know how long it takes for new visitor visa. They don’t like repeated applications but may be OK during Covid  times. As far as 3 year visa is concerned you need permission to be able to apply onshore as it’s normally applied for offshore. If you go down that route before you’ve been granted 173 it will stop you applying for 143 until it runs out. Getting 870 visa before applying for permanent 143 visa wont let you apply for any parent visa

Oh right! Thank you for your information. I will go ahead with simple tourist visa 600 then.

Hi Paul,

So i came here March 2020 on visa 600. Then I applied another 600, needed to do health check and police check in vietnam and in Australia for the last 10 years as well and this visa will be expired Aug 2021. Now i need to apply for another visa 600 and want to ask for another year.
thank you i will add in the information that I have submitted 173 since June 2016 and i ve got medical insurance for the last 18 months in Australia. How long did you ask for a visa extension?

Hi Jess2201,

We asked for validity until end-2021. We could maybe have asked for (and got ) a full 12 months, but felt we maybe seemed more 'reasonable' asking for a shorter period. I wouldn't put you off asking for 12 months, though - you might well get it.

Anyone got figures for the number of parent visas allocated to 2021-22?

900 non contributory visas eg 804 and 103

3600 contributory visas  143, 173, 884 & 864

BUT 125 of those are reserved for holders of the old 405 and 410 visas so it’s actually 3475 left for contributory visas if all those are all taken up

I thought this cap was till June 21.

2021/2022 migration level caps shown at above link. 4500 parent visas of which 3600 are contributory visas  143, 173, 884 & 864.  The same reduced level as 2021/2022.

The same cap of 3600 still includes 125 reserved for holders of 405  & 410 so  actually 3475 available  for 173,143,884 & 864.

Its not made clear if those reserved places are thrown open to the other applicants if they’re not taken up

Obviously I do not know how many if any holders of the 410 and 405 visa holders are still applying for the 143 pathway  visa. The 410 visa ended to new applicants in 2005, and the 405 visa in 2018. When we met Peter Dutton in either late 2015 or early 2016, I can’t remember, there were approximately 3,500 elderly 410 visa holders left in Australia and approximately 300 405 visa holders.

Including us I heard of about 20 people, mostly couples  applying for the pathway visa in the first few months from November 2018? We were the only ones in our group of 10 couples on the 410 who used to meet up regularly, who had any intention of applying, most didn’t have children  The general feeling was that at their ages it wasn’t worth the money, and they were already established here. The government web site does imply that  the visas allocated wouldn’t impact on number of parent visas allocated?

I have no idea if the 125 visas were extra or deducted from the annual allocation, but it would be interesting after 3 years if theoretically 375 visas have been granted, how many are still applying due to the low number and age of the people actually here in 2015/16

I completely sympathise with the frustration of the increased wait for the parent visa, due to the reduced number of visas allocated,, and wonder as others have mentioned if it’s a calculated way to cut back as the country doesn’t want older retired people here.

Sorry it does read that the 125 are included.

@Alan Collettmentioned  in one of his blogs that:-

The ceiling on the granting of CP Visas includes 125 visas that are available to subclass 410 and 405 visa holders who are seeking permanent residency under the pathway to permanent residency for retirement and investor retirement visa holders.

https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/number-of-parent-visas-capped-for-year-to-30-june-2021/

Whilst that blog referred to the caps for 20/21, immi has decided to keep to the same numbers for 21/22 as referred to above. I’m sure the information on how many 125 visas have been issued or are on hand would be available if a Freedom of Information request was applied for?

Thanks for all the useful info.  Are there any figures available for how many applications submitted in May 2016 are still to be processed and the total number of applications received in June 2016?  We received our Visa Application acknowledgement on 27 June 2016.  Like so many of you, we are desperate to be reunited with our family, with three sons, and four fast growing-up grandchildren there!

Total CPV 143 applications received in June 2016 was 1874

As of May 2021 CPV visa applications with a queue date up to May 2016 have been released for final processing. This is unchanged from June 2020.

@AJM22 your quote:-

Total CPV 143 applications received in June 2016 was 1874

only tells half the story. The queue is made up of ALL contributory visas and is dealt with in date order irrespective of the visa.
The true total ofJune applications is therefore the sum total of all those visas in that month which is actually  2051 as there were 177 visas in the 173 queue so all the processing times may be incorrect,  especially as there are still some earlier applications still being processed from May 2016 and even earlier - I’m aware of a couple  of posts asking about March 2016 applications!
