eday
Hi All, i wonder if you can offer some advice - My boyfriend and I are travelling to Australia at the end of August to celebrate his younger brothers wedding in Brisbane. I have applied for my visitor visa which has been accepted fine, but my partner's has been referred to VACCU. He was asked to submit any police record which he has done and has been told the wait could be up to 3 months before the application is even assigned to an agent. We're starting to worry that his application won't be approved in time for the wedding and he's deeply anxious about letting his family down. The background is, his first offense was a stop and search back in 2006 for possession of class C and the same in 2007. He served no prison time, but just received 100 hours community service (for the second occasion) which he completed as soon as possible. Does anyone know if there's anyone we can talk to to try and process the application faster? He's becoming very worried and anxious about telling his parents and brother that he may not be able to attend the wedding as a brother and best man. Anything you can advise will be deeply appreciated. He's forwarded all requested documents via email and post. Thanks in advance
rammygirl
Processing for many visas has been very slow in the past 12 months. I wouldn’t hold your breath. Even people who need resident return visas who are living in Australia can wait 3 months. Processing times on the gov website are pretty representative. You can send a request with full supporting documentation stating the wedding and relationship and ask for expedited processing. Maybe contact an agent for advice. Dont rely on the immigration helpline though, they cam often give poor advice! Additional security screening for any convictions adds time. Drugs and violence are scrutinised in particular. Sorry if this isn’t what you wanted to hear but he should have applied earlier. Edited July 17, 2019 by rammygirl
eday
Thank you for your quick response! You've provided more info than we could find online! I called the immigration line and they couldn't help at all He's sent all requested documents back as soon as he was asked to with a cover letter providing information on the wedding, relationship and where/when he would be in Australia with proof of flight purchase. When you say contact an agent, is this at VACCU? He was only given a warning and the 100 hour community service, no prison time at all. This was all submitted in June, nearly 3 months before he required it. Thanks again for your help!
al3x
Hi Eday, I’m just wondering whether you have heard any news on this? Our flights are booked for 25th August and my sons visa has been referred to VACCU. Not sure whether to email VACCU and give contract of employment as I’m due to start on 16th September.
