Insurance Recomendations

Hi all

I will be arriving in Australia in a few weeks on a 482 Visa (With the aim to get PR asap).

During my time on 482 i understand i will not be fully covered by Medicare, but there is a reciprocal agreement between the UK and Australia.

I also understand i need to get insurance for what this does not cover, so i guess my question is, does anyone recommend any insurers that cover specifically fror this at reasonable prices? I've seen all the big names around (Bupa etc), but it's not something i want to rush into, best to get this right and at a reasonable price if we can 🙂

Thanks in advance

Nathan

I would check out a comparison website where you can put in your specific requirements for cover. If you are not a PR then you will be limited to specific policies designed for temporary visa holders and don't qualify for the tax rebates for holding health insurance that PR and citizens get. I recommend getting extras cover as well as hospital cover if you wear glasses or like to get your teeth checked regularly.

The comparison sites only sell what they have been paid to.. they don’t include all policies from the companies they represent (I used to work for one). But they’re a good place to start to get an idea. Compare the market is ok. ISelect will bombard you with calls - avoid st all costs. There is a government website too (not as user friendly but includes all policies from all companies) and there’s a competitor for just not-for-profit & industry specific funds, called Members Own.
