Its not great when these sporting events.....the crown jewels.....are on pay per view.....I was disappointed when the BBC gave up its rights for F1.....I got a new Mob phone a few weeks ago.....my old one broke and I had it replaced on the insurance policy.....my contract then expired about a week later so I switched to a sim only deal......I also got Sky spots included in the package.....I think it has 10GB or 25 GB of data as well.....cant remember which one but for an extra £5 I was able to upgrade to all the sky sports channels....so for £27 month I got free calls and Txt.....10GB or 25GB and sky sports channels......but TBH I still have not watched a full match.....I switch it on when Im bored and watch 10 or 15 mins in between the rain...... 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

unzippy 3,972 Posted June 17, 2019 The popularity of a sport isn't just about TV coverage, in fact that's a minimal factor. Most football is on pay TV and yet no one bemoans its dying. Same for rugby (both codes). Angling? Number one participation sport in the UK I believe and yet where is the TV coverage? Is cricket played in schools? Do clubs go out and engage with youth? kungfustu 3,899 Posted June 17, 2019 I think sky tv is quite expensive.....with the sports channels I think its £45 upwards a month.....the problem is BT are also involved now and have purchased some of the premier league and champions league matches so you have to subscribe to that as well......ontop of Netflix and Amazon.....its a fking joke TBH....we have Netflix cus the kids love all that type of TV....the peep show and Black Mirror etc etc etc.....but we got rid of sky years ago.....just have cable/satellite through the TV which is free so the only outlay is Netflix for about £7 a month and if it keeps the kids happy its got to be worth it.....I certainly would not pay for Sky TV or BT Sports. I think the government should do more to keep certain sports on normal free TV.....before you know it the football world cups and European Championships will be on Sky etc. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I have Foxtel with sport and it does cost me $68 a month but you have to spend your money on something. I probably only have it for the AFL and a few pommy shows like Eastenders. But I can afford it so who cares ? The world cup is on free to air here, at least the Aussie matches anyway are on 9 Gem or Go or one of those secondary channels. 1 Buy a man eat fish. This isn't about the popularity of the sport, this is about who is actually watching a world-event tournament on TV. And the answer is not many people in this Country. BacktoDemocracy 6,213 Posted June 17, 2019 I know nuffink about it, but might it be connected with the endless cheating allegations, the poor sportsmanship, the behaviour of players off the field, the boorish sledging by sectors of the spectators, the price of tickets and the celebrity status that some players think they deserve on the back of very little to recommend them, all in all I'm surprised they are selling any tickets at all and of course in the UK endless bad weather and aren't most supporters the older demographic who find all of these behaviours a real deterrent. There were 700,000 applications for tickets for India v Pakistan. I can drop round to my brother in law's, and probably will for the final, but I've been watching the highlights free on channel four. Nearly there! Don't drop the ball now guys!
