Alex_134 Posted June 11, 2019 Share Posted June 11, 2019 Hi, wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation. I am visiting family in the uk and usually just borrow my dads car. But my uk licence has now expired so the insurance quotes are around £500. I don’t think I can renew my licence as I am only visiting the uk. I have also looked at temporary insurance but that costs more than hiring a car. Just wondering if there is something I have missed. rammygirl Posted June 11, 2019 Share Posted June 11, 2019 Mm. We just hire a car on our Aus license. I guess it will depend on your dads insurance company, they all vary as to additional drivers. Incidentally your UK license wasn’t actually valid if you were resident abroad for more than six months. You might have had problems Claiming if you had an accident or were stopped by police. It is different in Aus as the car is insured rather than the person.
