Hi all posted before "grass is greener?"

House undecided to keep and rent or just sell freeing up capital?

Cars, camper etc will be sold

Dog, (most important part for us)  crate training underway, all jabs up to date and awaiting on fixed move date for rabies as required. ANy experience with different pet companies?

My question, we have stuff we wish to ship back figured it will save us in the long run, anyone have any recommendations?

Job wise when we return, daunting, but we work on contracts here year by year so no stability really. Any suggestions as to which industries are doing well or up and coming.?

Thanks

House. Personally, I would recommend sell as trying to be a landlord from the other side of the world is potentially a headache. Fine if all goes well. Pain if there is a problem.

Dog. We used Dogtainers who were excellent.

Shipping I think is a bit of a muchnesss. All similar. Get a number of quotes

Jobs. UK currently has highest employment rate in decades. Once you know when moving, start applying

Renting or selling is a personal choice. We have rented out property in UK for over 20 years, and haven’t luckily really ever had a problem, but friends haven’t been as lucky. You have to consider how rentable the area is, can you afford the mortgage, if  you have one, if the house is empty for a while. How practical is it to rent the property, we found our house needed too much maintenance as it was an old house with a large garden, so bought smaller newish low maintenance places. You have to choose good reliable management companies and advisable to have 3 monthly property reports. With that in place we have been very lucky, and in our case the income helps in retirement.

You have also to look into the tax implications, capital gains etc, if you have a mortgage can you rent out the property. Lots to consider, but it is doable, only you can decide if it’s worth it. Some people who emigrate like the security of keeping a place in UK, just in case.

There is an article in the UK newspaper of changes to tax changes for landlords from April 2020. Don’t know any more than that, so suggest everyone finds out what the new tax implications are, and how it will affect them.
