Advice regarding 190 Nominated Visa

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and girls,

This is my first post on the forum and hopefully not my last.

As per the title of the thread I'm looking for some advice/guidance/stories about the 190 visa (Or other visas if they're viable) for me and my other half if anybody is able to help that would be great.

About our situation

I'm an Electrician with UK qualifications (I qualified in 2016 but the month is dependent on which paperwork you look at), we recently spent a year in Australia on a WHV where I worked as an Electrician and we foolishly came home in May (despite me having 2 sponsorship offers), I've been working as a sparks since I got back.

Does the 11 months I spent working in Australia count towards my post qualification experience? I'm waiting to here back from a skills assessment company but wanted to know if others had experience of this? Also will they need to contact my current employer - that would be very awkward as I'm fairly new there and especially given the Visa processing times (That's after the EOI and ITA time frame too)

Am I right in thinking I need to complete the skills assessment before I can even register an EOI? Then I need to have everything in order before I make that EOI (and be able to prove everything was accurate at that date?)

My partner isn't a native English speaker and doesn't have a trade or profession as such so she would be coming as a defacto - would her English need to assessed and confirmed before we make the EOI?

Sorry if these questions seem obvious but I'm just trying to confirm my understanding is correct as I've seen some agents are quick to sell the dream but I've had some vague answers from 1 agent that has really put us off using him. We don't want to start moving forwards and then got told we need to do 10 things within a short space of time if we know it'll not likely happen.

Hoping to move to NSW (Sydney) but would consider Canberra also. Have family in NSW but not in a designated area unfortunately (even though it's 1.5 hours North of Sydney)

I've been reading other threads etc and would love to hear your experiences especially regarding time frames recently and how many people have been declined or not ITA.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I would use the points calculator on the Australian Gov website to check your points.

It asks for experience outside of Australia and in Australia.

Going off what you've said I don't think you get points for any work experience you've done as offshore its above 3yrs and onshore its above 1yr until you get any points.

Try a MA on this forum and they should be able to give you an assessment then at least you know where you are at.

Sorry not really of help to you.  But did you do Vetassess assessment when you first went? How did you work under what visa?

No I didn't do any Vetassess assessment before I went previously. I just worked 'unlicensed' in NT & NSW without problem.

I had a WHV, could only get the 1 year due to my age unfortunately.

Just wanted to add, i've got between 60/65 points before state nomination.

I've spoken to the skills assessment guys at the Down Under Centre and they've assured me I can claim 3 years without problem and as the majority of my work was in NSW that can also be claimed (if needed).

So, with a Superior score for English I'm at 65 points with the state nomination.

Just waiting to see what happens in the Elections and any immigration policies that may or may not be announced in the next 6 months before I book my skills assessment and go full steam ahead.
