Temporary sponsored parent visa - Required minimum income of the sponsor announced

Recommended Posts

Information has been made available this afternoon as to the required taxable income of the sponsor of a temporary sponsored parent visa application.

The amount is A$83,454.80.

The taxable income will need to be confirmed by presenting the tax assessment notice for the financial year immediately preceding the year in which the application for approval as a sponsor is submitted – ie for the tax year ended 30 June 2018 if the application for approval as a sponsor is lodged before the end of June 2019.

Best regards.

Please see para 4 here: https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2019L00542/Explanatory Statement/Text

"If an applicant's taxable income is combined with other taxable incomes such as the taxable income of the applicant’s spouse or de facto partner; or one child of a permitted sponsor that meets the requirements of subregulation 2.60W(3) of the Regulations, and that combined amount is at least equal to the amount specified in an instrument under subregulation 2.60W(4) of the Regulations, the taxable income test is met. "

The Regulations relating to the new temporary sponsored parent visa have been published today.

Best regards.

Thank you for the info.

I assume A$83,454.80 is amount is for one parent, but is there any info available for the income needed to sponsor two parents? And can this income be split between more than one person (sponsor and partner)?

Also, there is a condition requiring, “The applicant genuinely intends to stay in Australia temporarily”. Do you think this means you can’t hold an 870 visa while also applying for permanent parent visa?

On the following page it is stated it doesn't matter if the applicant has lodged 143.

https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/sponsored-parent-temporary-870#Eligibility

But here under the document section  https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/sponsored-parent-temporary-870#HowTo , the applicant must show they are a genuine temporary entrant.

On the page for 143, it shows it can only be granted offshore except for certain conditions, excluding 870. I wonder if this indicates something or is just not updated yet.

Sadly the clarification didn't clarify much.

Hi SusieRoo.

Broadly, the sponsor's income requirement can be met by aggregating the taxable income of the spouse or de facto partner of the sponsor, plus the taxable income of another child of the visa applicant who is in Australia.

In this situation the sponsor must though have an income at least equal to one half of the required total.

Best regards.
