Sigemup
Hi guys, I had filed the tax returns (my 2nd here and first done by miself without tax consultant). It had a Medicare levi to be paid. I had not known how to pay it and totally forgot to check and do it. Today I checked my post box and found a letter sent about 10 days ago that Probe had been requested by ATO to collect this amount. (Even before I saw this letter this evening, I had visited a Tax consultant today as part of that obtained the info I needed to pay the levi and paid off by Bpay this afternoon.) Could you please let me know what are the implications of this ? Edited April 3, 2019 by Sigemup Used with instead of without
Samson
If you didn't see the letter and had paid it before you read the letter from the debt collectors, you will need to let the debt collector know you have paid it to the ATO. This may cause issues depending on how they work, however from memory the ATO doesn't sell the debt on, just employs their services to chase? I could be wrong. Anyhow, visa wise unless you constantly try and dodge your tax liabilities then 1 oversight isn't going to get you into any trouble.

I did the Bpay in the morning of yesterday - however the ATO website still shows the due amount. I guess it would take a couple of days to reflect ? Also the letter from Probe collections says if I have already paid then I could ignore the letter. Should I wait for it to reflect on ATO website and call Probe ?
