How long does it usually take for DIBP to contact you with a date for your citizenship test? Do they e-mail you or send a letter in the post? I've been waiting a week since I applied and still nothing...

Are you without your 'country of origin' passport for any period when applying for citizenship? How long does it usually take to get an Aussie passport?

I'm eligible for citizenship at the moment but I've got two trips out of the country in the coming months so I need to time my application well

No. Not all all. You send a scanned copy of your passport with your application and take the original with you to the appointment/citizenship test.

Do you guys reckon I would get into the Australia Day ceremony? I received my citizenship approval letter in the post about a week after I sat the test. Not sure what the cut off date was for making the Citizenship Day (17 Sept) ceremony, but hopefully I'm not far down in the queue for the following ceremony on Australia Day!

Unfortunately, nobody can tell you when you'll get your invite for the ceremony. That's completely up to your council and every council deals differently with citizenship matters and of course if they have a so called 'backlog' (= description of being overwhelmed and not well enough organized with hosting the right number of citizenship ceremonies).

DIBP can't influence that, their work ended with sending the approval letter.

Try to log on their website and have a look if they have announced when the next citizenship ceremonies are hosted.

I think Unley Council will host a ceremony on Australia Day as here's the next misunderstanding occuring: not every council will do so 'just' because of Australia Day! Depends on funding and resources, my new council won't do that and will stick to Tuesdays + Wednesdays.

Good luck to you for a quick ceremony and keep us updated!

Hello

I gave the test on 05/09 and passed 100% because test was so so easy but representative said every thing is straightforward nothing wrong that I can see in ur application. they will do the police check?i m just wondering how long does it takes to check the records/background?

how I can see the status (immi account does not help) and waiting time in high risk counties ?

cheers
