651 subclass

Recommended Posts

We are out here on a 651 subclass, it expires on 25/8/19.   We have been going in and out of Oz every 3 months.  Has anyone else done this on a year by year basis?

If you keep doing it, you'll eventually get taken to one side and grilled about your intentions, because it's going to look as though you're trying to use short-term visas to achieve a long-term stay.  If they decide that's the case then you will be refused entry.

Yes I think this will probably be the case, but I will try for another year 🤞. Has anyone heard anything about this new visa that lets parents stay for 3 or 5 years, at a cost of course.  I was told we should have news in the next 6-8 week So?

Do you mean this one:

Note the conditions:  if you get a 651 refused at some point, then you won't be eligible to apply for the 173 (and I'd expect that condition to apply to any new visas coming out, too).

If you are only going outside of Australia for short periods to enable you to re-enter and re-start the 3 months, you are risking being questioned as to whether you are a genuine visitor.

If you are deemed not to be a genuine visitor, you risk your visa being cancelled and an exclusion period imposed.

It is supposed to commence early this year, but no new news as yet.
