Showing available funds for 190 visa

Hi everyone

I'm looking at South australia for a 190 visa and noticed the section about having money to settle there.

Do they ask for evidence of your funds and would my wife class as a dependent in this circumstance or is it still only my children.

It shows a table of how much money you should have and it's more than I was planning on bringing.

They do it for a reason, setting up in a new country isn’t cheap and it can take months to find work. I am not sure if they routinely ask for proof in SA nowadays but they can and these days more rules are being applied more rigorously.

For you plus three dependents $35-45k in cash and assets is required with $20k available as cash on moving. So you can use any equity in a house to help.

It will depend on your own personal circumstances how much you will actually need but initial costs are much higher than normal living costs and if you do not have employment to go to then you can go through a serious amount of cash in the first few months, in addition to the costs of flights and shipping.

At what point would they want to see funds and assets? (If they did check). I wasn't looking at submitting my eoi for another few months then saving up as the process went on.

My plan was to book a holiday rental for 4months then all bills are taken care off (apart from food) whilst I looked for work.
