Houses for sale.

Hello.

can anyone answer this question.

Do homeowners advertise & sell their properties in local newspapers in Adelaide and surrounding areas? In the U.K. private sellers can place their property for sale in the local newspapers without going through agents we wanted to know if the same system operates in Australia.

Thank you. K.G.W.

No, not really.   People selling without an agent is rare in Australia, and if people do want to DIY, they are more likely to do it online than in a newspaper.

Advertising property in print is dying out in Australia.  Many real estate agents don't even bother to advertise a property in a newspaper or magazine any more, it's just online (either on domain.com.au or realestate.com.au).

You don't really need to follow the agents.  They all advertise everything on those two websites. If you do a search for the suburbs you are interested in, you can Save that search, then you will be sent an alert at regular intervals, telling you when new properties are listed by any of them.

I've noticed quite a few private house  sales here - no agents involved.  This is in Tassie so not sure about the mainland.  They all sell fairly quickly.

But do they advertise in the newspapers or is it online?  Or just a board at the front of the house?

They have a board at the front of the house and are online.   Not sure whether or not they are advertised in a newspaper.

This house round the corner from us was "For sale by owner".  It sold very quickly.

That’s what I said. The OP was asking if people sold property via the newspaper

You can but it's unlikely. I think most people search online.

There are a couple of companies similar to purple bricks in the UK.
