Partner 309 witness nationality

Hi, just going through the online IMMI application for a partner 309 visa, and where it asks for details of 2 witnesses to the relationship it mentions nothing about nationality, whereas on the previous paper forms it stated they should be Australians nationals. Is this still the case? Thanks.

The supporting witnesses have to each complete a form 888 and the form requests that the person completing this form be an Australian citizen/resident. However it also states that if the visa applicant is outside of Australia and is unable to have an Australian citizen/resident complete this form then any person who know their partner or fiance may also complete this form. 

So when completing the online application bear in mind the above when providing witness details.

Thanks Sue. Bit frustrating as the new system pushes you straight onto the online application that has no reference to Form 888 at all, and no mention of Australian citizenship or permanent resident status for the witnesses details supplied on page 19. At least with the previous paper applications that I am now cross referencing to the requirements were made clearer.

You should find all the details in the Partner Booklet though and you expected to read that before applying
