Harmaye
Hi. We’ve just bought a house and are required to stay in the house in Australia post settlement for a minimum of 200 days. Does this mean technically that we can’t leave the country for business or a holiday ? Thank you.
rammygirl
What is the reason for this condition? Is it a first home owner grant or FIRB condition? What state are you in? Im sure if you read the conditions carefully or look at a FAQ on line (on the official site) the answer will be there. I can’t imagine that others have not wondered the same thing. I would guess that it should remain you principal place of residence for that period, so you can go on holidays.
Harmaye
Thanks rammygirl. We’re in NSW and it seems a condition around stamp duty ie. we might have to pay double if we don’t stay for at least 200 days. It will be our principle place of residence. In that case, it just means you have to be living in the house, i.e. you can't rent it out to anyone else, or leave it completely empty. While you're on holiday, all your stuff is in the home and you're still living in it, so that's OK.
