Suggestions on where to move

Hi there,

Myself and my partner are looking at potential places to live in between Ballarat and Melbourne CBD, nothing is certain I’ve just had a potential job come up in Ballarat, but my partner would be working in Melbourne CBD, I was wondering if any one has and suggestions or experienced living in the suburbs between both, we ideally would like an equal distance and have been looking around Melton and Eynesbury.

any information would be great

thanks

I wouldn't worry about trying to make your mind up now.  It's impossible to make a decision from a distance.  You can do all the Googling and asking advice you like, but it can look totally different when you get there.

That's particularly true if you're thinking of living in the country, because country towns in Australia are nothing like country towns in the UK.

You won't be able to secure a rental property before you arrive, so you'll have to book four weeks in a holiday flat, and that will give you time to look around.

I would choose a town that has a railway station, because commuting into Melbourne CBD by car would be a pain.

Blimey, don’t look at Melton! Some of the suburbs in that area are best well avoided.

As Marisa said, nothing beats the eyeball test! Bacchus Marsh isn’t bad but it’s not a suburb, quite a nice little country town. It’s got a wool shop and you can get good rat poison there (I’m sure the DH could find some in Canberra but we always call in at BM to replenish stock when we are down that way).

I’d be more inclined to look in Ballarat and make the commute to Melbourne. You’d get more bang for your buck accommodation-wise.

My personal observation is that Bacchus Marsh and those outer west places are giant barren dust bowls. Agree not Melton. Ballarat has a bit more to it but some of the suburbs are better than others, as with most places. Agree with the above and nothing beats eyeballing the place.

My son played a lot of football in Ballarat and there is a proper community spirit about.

Budget will dictate as always.

I have a friend lives in Footscray, it’s a real melting pot culturally and doesn’t have the best of reputations but she loves it, easy access to the city, walk to everything and wouldn’t live anywhere else.

Hi all,

yeah I will be doing the eyeball test if anything comes of it, I just wanted personal opinions to give me an idea of what the people think of the area, which could help me make a decision if it come to anything.

thank you all for your advice ?
