Hi. We arrived with our baby Boomer  a 2.5yr old Golden Retriever. In May. We haven't settled back here in the UK and seem to be getting more distraught as the days go by.

So we are thinking of returning. We know it takes a while for Boomer to return .We are just trying to figure out what we have to do first . We've just been sent round in circles from Defra to the vets and back again.

Boomer had his anti rabies on the 8th April in Aus. What comes next in the UK to return him

Thanks

Dawn

Hi Dawn

next is to get the rabies blood sample done soon - the vaccine in April should still show enough antibodies to pass. Then he cant travel for 6 months after that. So now is time to get quotes and decide how much help you would like.

But key thing is to get the rabies blood sample done asap and read this https://www.petairuk.com/taking-pets-to-australia/dogs-australia

If we decided to go back to Oz earlier than our dog and friends looked after him for us does that affect anything?

Nope, that is completely fine, but then you will get more benefit from a shipper (like Petair but there are others too) who looks after lots of the preparation - unless your friend is happy to do it. But in terms of can you travel before your dog - yes lots of people do.

weeks, months or even years 🙂 All are fine. You  can travel, leave your dog in UK and then your shipper/friends can help with the pre travel arrangements. For example, Petair can arrange vet work, collect from an address, get permits and, essentially, project manage and arrange the whole move with your being in Australia.

The sooner you get the rabies blood sample done the sooner your dog can travel.
