Processing times - when did you count the time ? From medicals or from paying ?

Hello,

We paid for our 190 visa on 1st January 2018 but didn’t get asked for medicals until April.

The current processing time is 6-10 months.

From your experience was this time from paying or from medical date?

Anxiously waiting news!

Thank you

You’ll get a range of answers. When we applied 2 years back we submitted everything upfront and had our visas within 7 weeks IIRC. There’s a 190 visa thread which may give you more current timeframes or other ‘tracker sites’ where people track their visa progress and you can see how other people are faring. Good luck!

Processing time is generally counted from when the application is lodged - ie, when you have paid for it.

The processing time is a measurement of the time from the application lodgement to the date the visa was decided.  DHA reports backwards, so if they say processing time is currently 6 months, it means they are finalising applications that were lodged 6 months ago.  It's not a prediction of how far in the future you can expect your visa to be decided although it's the best guesstimate anyone can make.

My understanding was an application was lodged when the fee was paid. Not before or upon undertaking a medical or police check.

I'd say you lodged 6 months ago, when you paid the fee.

Yes, lodging is when you pay the fee.  From that moment, your application has been submitted and at any time after that a case officer could begin reviewing it (although of course there's usually a considerable delay due to heavy volumes of applications).  If you upload all your documents including police check and also complete the medical, then your application is complete and it's more likely your application will be processed quickly.  If they have to contact you for information or to complete your medicals, of course it will slow down the processing.
