We want to buy a gas fire from England, as they are a lot cheaper.  Are they compatible in Australia? Could anybody help me?

Hi @otto a few things that you need to remember is that you won’t get anyone to fit it unless it’s Aus compliant, it may be worth while sending an email to http://www.aga.asn.au/ also don’t forget the import fee and shipping cost.

If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.

Thanks for the advice, shipping cost and import tax aside it is still a huge saving. I will contact the link provided.

Is the area you moving to gas compatible? We have no natural gas around here, if you want gas you have to get the bottles delivered.

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place...

If you get a chance, take it, If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy they just said it would be worth it...

Don't bother. We looked at this very extensively as we built a house with a design to fit a gas fire, but the costs in Oz were, as you are discovering, huge. But, while technically they can be altered to work, you won't get anyone to fit it and even if you did, it invalidates things like your house insurance.

Gas is a very expensive way to heat here. A number of companies are now doing gas to electric conversions as the running costs are substantially cheaper and they are very busy.

Hello. I have found gas very cheap way of heating and cooking. In our last place we had gas bottles delivered for cooking purposes. One canister cost about $100.00, and lasted us nearly a year. In our new place we just use gas for heating. We brought a Rinnai Dynamo 15 free standing gas heater. Cost about $800. Heats the living room and beyond up magnificently. Don't need to keep it on all night. Just enough to heat the room that takes the chill off.
