Saurer Pfirsich
Bit of an S.O.S. call this one. We've got my 19 y.o. niece and her friend staying with us for a few days in the coming weeks and we're scratching our heads when it comes to thinking of activities that they'll want to do whilst they're with us. Can anyone suggest activities or places to go in the Melbourne area that would appeal to young people of this age?
Parley
Come on. Melbourne is full of things to do all year around. If you live here you should know that.
Parley
The Melbourne Comedy Festival is onat the moment. There are heaps of acts performing. You can't go wrong taking a visitor to an AFL game. Theatre, restauarants. No shortage of things to do.

I don't think they'd be interested in an AFL game tbh - we've never been to one ourselves for that matter. We can take them out for dinner in the city, that's easy, but it's finding something that would interest two young women during the day that we're struggling with. We could always do Chadstone or Chapel Street for shopping I suppose.

They could do that at home in the UK! In fact, I'm sure they do! Edited April 7, 2018 by Saurer Pfirsich
Skani
Healesville Sanctuary? It specialises in Australian native animals.

CeltInCaulfield
Sovereign Hill is damned good as well - but Ballarat might be a bit far?

Ballarat’s only an hour away and it’s an interesting piece of history. Penguin Parade would be a similar distance but also one of those oooh aaah moments.
CeltInCaulfield
Ah, the Penguins. And Phillip Island is a nice stopover if it's late.

Not too far, but we did that one with our own kids last year. Thought it was ok, if a bit pricey.
CeltInCaulfield
Peninsula Hot Springs? It's great up there.

Guest The Pom Queen
Sovereign Hill is lovely, how about Philip Island and the penguins. A day out in the Dandenong Ranges which can include feeding the wild parrots at Grants Picnic Area https://visitdandenongranges.com.au/activity/grants-picnic-ground you could do Puffing Billy http://puffingbilly.com.au/en/ visit the Giants Chair and look out at Sky High https://www.skyhighmtdandenong.com.au/ and if you want food whilst up there you have plenty of places but I’d recommend the Cuckoo Smorgasbord (buffet) https://www.cuckoorestaurant.com.au/ . Don’t forget the Eureka Tower with the glass platform that moves away from the building, I’m not usually scared of heights but I hated it lol https://www.eurekaskydeck.com.au/ ‘Melbourne Zoo is good, Werribee Zoo and Safari and Healesville. Something unique to Australia, so seeing Kangaroos, Koalas, the parrots at Grants and the Penguins on Philip Island.
Guest The Pom Queen
Just another thought, do they watch or like Neighbours? http://www.neighbourstour.com.au/# they use to also do an evening with some of the members, Carl Kennedy would have his band and they did a quiz, it was in St Kilda but I can’t remember where sorry or if they still do that, but it was a great evening for those over 18. Thanks Pom Queen. We did the Dandenong Ranges 10 years ago when we first came to Melbourne, so a revisit would make for a nice day out. If we combine that with Eureka Skydeck and a nice dinner in town we should have the weekend covered.

Gosh is that still going?! I haven't watched TV for years and haven't seen 'Neighbours' since I was at university in the '90's!

Stayorgo
I'd say the afl, tram car restaurant (I did it a few time in my early 20s and loved it!), neighbours tour is great if they watch it, yarra valley wineries, healesvile, melbourne central is great for shopping, city circle tram ride in the city, city walking tour, melbourne museum, st Kilda and get cake on acland st, drive round the f1 track at Albert park, trip down the great ocean road (we've done it in a day before!), a sports tour (we did one that included flemington, etihad, mcg...) or just the mcg tour if they like cricket..... List is endless!
