deanblb
Hi I am hoping to move to Australia within the next two years and want to check my understanding of the current rules regarding pension transfers. I will be 55 in the next couple of months, so should I be filling my SIPP with as much as I can and then transfer it to an Australian superannuation scheme? Will I be able draw on the Australian superannuation tax free? The pension at the moment is not large about £40k, I also have an occupational pension which I will not be transferring. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Andrew from Vista Financial
Hi deanblb A bit difficult to say what is the best thing to do on a forum but is the strategy you are suggesting based on maximising tax relief (up to limits) on your contributions? Yes super withdrawals are tax-free over age 60 in OZ but it is also possible to get tax deductions on contributions here as well again up to certain contribution amounts. There are also rules around how much can be accessed from super and when so ensure you understand these if you are planning on accessing the money soon after you get here. Hope this helps. deanblb
Thanks Andy, that is really helpful. I am trying to maximise tax relief on contributions and obtain the most efficient way making withdrawals. I am hoping that I will get confirmation of the visa in the next few months. If it is okay I will give you a call then. Regards
Andrew from Vista Financial
No problem deanblb. I've just realised that the articles on our knowledge centre (highlighted links in my previous post) were locked, I've changed these now to public access so you are able to read them without logging in/signing up.
