Melissa1414
Hi, I'm a skilled Metallurgist with 8 years experience (1.5 years in Australia) and am trying to emigrate permanently. According to the Govt home affairs website list my occupation is only employer nominated? Does anyone know if there is any other way please? I held a 457 back in 2012, but the company sold the mine and I had to leave or quickly find a new sponsor (which was difficult at the time, due to a downturn in the industry), so would prefer the stability of a permanent visa this time. I meet the points criteria and have already had my skills checked back in 2012. I appreciate any suggestions please, Thanks, Melissa
VERYSTORMY
I am afraid not. You are eligible for permanent employer sponsored, but that would be difficult to get. You would probably only be offered a TSS (the new replacement for the 457). However, even that would be difficult as although the industry has picked up a bit, there is still a lot of people trying to get back into it already living in Australia. At the same time, the TSS is a lot more expensive and processing times are now long.
Marisawright
If your occupation isn't on the list, it isn't on the list. There's no way around that, I'm afraid. Employer sponsorship is your only hope and as Verystormy says, that's likely to get you another temp job and nothing more.
wrussell
Quote Does anyone know if there is any other way please? You might have better luck with a related skilled occupation such as Metallurgical or Materials Technician. May I suggest that you consult registered migration agent for advice about whether a viable visa strategy can be developed?
Melissa1414
Thanks everyone for your comments and advice, I can apply as Process Engineer I think, but need to have skills assessed by Engineers Australia and qualifications by VETASSESS, so a bit of mucking about, but looking more hopeful... wrussell
Quote and qualifications by VETASSESS No you don't. VETASSESS does not assess qualifications, they refer to the CEP
