Ashleightaylor
Hi everyone! My partner and I are going to begin the process of submitting our expression of interest soon so I was just wondering if anyone on here has a similar situation/circumstances as us. My partner will be the main visa applicant as a solid plasterer (333212), with 60 points. We'll be applying for NSW state sponsorship also. Has anyone else recently been on the same path as us and been invited to apply? Curious to know what timescales other people have encountered. Thanks! VERYSTORMY
First thing, has he completed a skills assessment?
Ashleightaylor
Not yet, we have been speaking with a MARA agent who is going to guide us through everything. Just wanted to see if anyone is in a similar situation with the same points
VERYSTORMY
We have we have had many plasterers on the forum over the years successfully gain visas. But many don't come back on once they are through the process.

Monks
We’ve just been granted our visas, my other half is a plasterer but we applied for a 189 not 190 but feel free to ask any questions and i’ll try to help ?
Ashleightaylor
Oh wow congratulations! Exciting times ahead! Have you booked your flights over? Where do you plan on settling? How long did it take you to receive an invitation from your EOI?
Monks
Thank you! ? a lot to sort but we’re so excited!! Not booked any flights yet, had a quick look but we plan on booking them shortly as we plan to go in July as we have to make entry by 10th August. We received our invitation within a week on 60 points but I understand now that there’s a little bit more competition. We didn’t use an agent and we managed just fine. We’re heading to Perth as we have family there ? have you submitted your EOI?
Ashleightaylor
Thats so exciting! I'm dreaming of the day when we receive the good news. No we haven't submitted our EOI yet. We're going to a seminar in London on Friday with Visa Bureau, so we're going to ask loads of questions to the MARA agent and then hopefully get the ball rolling in the next month. What was the TRA process like for your OH? do you have a sample letter for the references that are needed? I'm so nervous about the process were going to use an agent just to make sure we've done everything absolutely right lol.
Monks
I still can’t believe it, I have to pinch myself sometimes! It’s been a long anxious wait. As he’s self employed it was a long slog getting all the paperwork together for the last 10 years. He found the TRA process the hardest and most time consuming, everything else seemed a breeze compared to that. Yeah sure, I’ll grab one off the computer and send you one. I remember posting all the documents to the TRA in December just before Xmas 2016 and we got a successful outcome in March. If it helps you with the process then I don’t blame you. It’ll give you that peace of mind. ?
Ashleightaylor
Oh I can imagine how that wait feels! ? with TRA, did they ask for any other supporting documents before they gave a positive skill assessment? Thank you so much that will be so helpful! My OH qualified in 2015, so we’re only just in the minimum 3 years experience bracket. I am a bit worried about that, but our MARA agent said as long as he completed an indentured apprenticeship that all should be good. OH says I worry about everything way too much, that I’m going to make myself ill ?? we haven’t even submitted EOI yet and I’m already stressed lol! Monks
No they didn’t ask for any other supporting documents, we just read the guidelines on what we needed to submit and submitted everything!! just to be on the safe side. My OH did a CITB qualification years ago and we didn’t know if it would be transferable but we contacted the TRA via telephone and they were really helpful. They couldn’t say until they obviously saw a breakdown of the units covered. Some of the guidelines were a little confusing too so we rang them I think about 3 or 4 times for clarification on a number of things if we didn’t understand. My OH also completed an NVQ level 3 before we submitted our documents to the TRA and we were worried that they would only count his years post qualification and not his old qualification but luckily for us it did. Lol believe me, I’m the worlds greatest when it comes to worrying. It’s been one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. Your life is on hold and nothing else matters. The whole process consumes every single minute of every day, but you’re not alone ?
Ashleightaylor
There's so much to take in isn't there! Is the TRA number an Aussie number? When they say you need to provide 3 payslips from each period of employment, do you know if that means per year? Oh gosh I can imagine! I feel like It's become an obsession lol! Is it just you and your husband going or do you have children?
Monks
My OH didn’t have to provide payslips as he is self employed but it’s 3 payslips per year you’re claiming experience. So if you’re claiming say 10 years it would be 30 payslips. Yes the TRA is an Aussie number, i remember staying up late at night to phone up because of the time difference. I would suggest that if you ever need to ring them don’t speak to the operatives who just answer the phone, we actually got to speak to an assessment officer. I think if your OH is employed and not self employed, gathering the paperwork won’t be as lengthy. Ours was a real pain in the butt. Its me, my OH and 16 year old son. We should have made the move years ago but things don’t always work out so they! Where you guys heading and are you going as a family? ?

Ashleightaylor
You're right there! things don't always work out as planned. We went on a working holiday in 2016 and thought we would end up staying but came home. After being home now for a year it's definitely time to go back permanently! This country is driving us crazy. We're hopefully going to Sydney, we love it there. Just the two of us no little ones yet That's brilliant thanks for your advice. Are you any closer to booking your flights yet? Jsmull87
If it helps I had to supply 4 payslips per year (one per quarter) but that was for electrician. Electrician is still under TRA though so there may be something to it. Did this in October 2017 I was also allowed to produce other documents if payslips were insufficient i.e you can request a tax summary from HMRC or references on headed paper if you can get them. Phil1712
Hi I have been a sub contractor for 10 years and also self employed over the last two years. Is the amount of money you have earned over that period taken into consideration when applying? Thanks

We got invited in the last round so we have no lodges the application but not done police certificates or medicals. Still a long road ahead. We are not totally sure where we will head yet although North Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or somewhere in between is appealing to us.
