Go and live in socialist country like China or Cuba for a few years and see how you like it.

Maybe you need to go Parley?

My brother's been in China for 15 years.  He was lent £8k by family to put a 50% deposit down on a unit, because he earned nothing.   He's now a millionaire, two apartments worth £500,000 each (including the one he bought for £32k) .  He teaches, owns a bar, a clothes shop...two kids, free and high standard education and healthcare for all, incredible transport system which is virtually free.  My parents have never had to queue ANYWHERE, and they cannot find a bus driver to take their money because all pensioner travel is free, even for foreigners.  There are churches, mosques, freedom of religion,  protests in the streets, fighting the police, drunkenness.  No different to bloody Birmingham, except they are making all the money through rampant capitalism.

Nobody's ever bothered him, ripped him off, hauled him in for anything.  Life of riley.  It's not how it's portrayed in our media.  A country of a 1.4billion that most westerners have got no real idea how it actually works or what life is like.

Hmmmm, might I have trodden on a corn!

Why do you find it necessary to have such a response to socialism, is it a bit confronting to have to realise how right wing most govts are and how they only pay lip service to looking after their citizens, if you want to throw stones at China for mistreatment of minorities then you have to fade some grim truths about your own govt.

Self declaration is meaningless.  We had a Taoiseach in Ireland who declared himself to be a socialist to howls of laughter from the left wing parties at the time.

Stalinist Russia was "communist" in name but an autocratic dictatorship in reality.

Btw, I would not consider myself a socialist.

Anyway, back on topic.

Our society is a mixture of socialism and capitalism. Pure of either is a nightmare. Get the mix right and you have a great society.

You're comments are disgraceful. You should really be ashamed of yourself.

To feel shame requires a level of self-awareness and an understanding of empathy.  When you possess neither of those attributes, there is no shame.

It can all be taken away in an instant.

Some busybody tells the police your brother is corrupt and the next thing he is in jail for years. The Chinese have a 99% conviction rate for anyone they arrest.

Would you like to explore that with one of the socialist Scandinavian countries.

Possibly we could tax Google. Except, with brexit, the USA won't let us do that. So much for sovereignty.

why would I want to explore what goes on in Scandinavia......I live in the UK and my concern would be a Corbyn socialist government......so are you saying you would be happy to see his socialist government or are you once again playing the role of devils advocate.......ZZZzzzzZZzzzzZZZzzzzzzzz................

Yep. I think most people believe in being rewarded for work and risk.  Similarly, most people believe in a safety net and a hand up (not out).

It's just where the line is on the net & support v how you pay for it.

The reason you compare is to copy what works in other countries for the benefit of your citizens.

Benchmarking is good.  You don't need to reinvent the wheel.

Eg.  Look what Norway has done with it's oil reserves v what the UK did.

oh I see.....its all becoming clear.....so thats what the republicans did in Ireland was it.....they compared what works in other countries and decided for the benefit of their citizens to knee cap.....shoot or blow up anyone that disagreed with their views.......clever that.....benchmarking.....I must remember that one😂

I would call Corbyn a communist or a state capitalist. Neither of which I like.

Socialism is a necessary part of our society. Saying you don't like socialism is like saying you don't like breathing.

I think that is called a straw man.

Address the argument or admit you have lost.

Or you can put a smiley face up as admission of defeat if you like.

Another straw man argument....Hong Kong isn't China.  Have you ever been there, or anywhere, or have anything useful to contribute?

Hong Kong protests are no different to what Brexiters are insinuating what will happen on the streets of the UK because they can't get their own way.   I think the Chinese Hong Kong police, guided by the British police on the ground, have shown enormous restraint.

Something quite funny about this.   I wonder if it's accompanied by an advert for gammon and chips.

Quote

The Conservative Party has been targeting older Facebook users with political adverts about Brexit, according to research by BBC News.

In contrast, younger Facebook users are being shown ads by the party on issues such as policing and mental health.

Tory adverts, mostly seen by users over 45, criticise opposition leaders for wanting "to ignore our Brexit vote".
