The (all new) Brexit Thread

The BBC is pretty good at reporting on World events.  British politics not so much.

Sky seems to be very good on the news front, and Channel 4 is excellent.

The BBC just seems too lily-livered domestically.   I don't care who says what, but they seem to drool over politicians and not make them answer the question.  What they've done is let too many politicians and some non-politicians get away with puffing themselves up, not corrected them for lying, and not held them to account so they just treat it as free advertising.

Sadly, the British (or at least just over half of them) have not only lost the plot but have had their total mental breakdown in the full glare of global publicity.

The obsessed Brexiteers have become so intent on naval gazing that they are totally oblivious (or even unconcerned) that the country they proclaim to be proud of has become synonymous with political failure and mismanagement.

Very sad.....the only compensation personally was that I got out ahead of it all.

Have some faith in your mother country.

She will be fine.

Far too much time on  your hands , you need to get a life maybe join BTD for a hot chocolate 😉

your links prove nothing , I know NF has been on but the point goes over your head he’s been the only remain voice many times , no bias in your eyes 🧐

Have you ever considered that the leave entity cannot come up a coherent position, other than it will be fine, even when every fact and every  informed commentator says otherwise.

It's a bit pointless trying to have a discussion when the only statement is " we will be fine once we've left' and " the EU have more to lose than we have", " just lets get on with it"  Don't let a few facts get in the way of a good fairy story

.So the BBC should just dumb itself down and parrot out inanities just to satisfy purveyors of fantasies, just like every authoritarian regime, close down the voices of reason so there is no opposition to MY version of facts.

Yunow, I think you have fought an unrelenting battle against any reasoning for your 'no deal exit' so I think you actually deserve it now.  Ho, I forgot you aren't in the country.  Are you?

Well what do you expect, every time they try to hold politicians to account they are lambasted by the right wing with threats to their funding and yet more drivel about how left wing they are, they simply cannot win when the Right are hell bent on destroying their impartiality and reputation, once the BBC is gone you will be left with the same state that the UK  press is in.

Hilarious......you just have to laugh at statements like the above......I would say you don't need to look to far to see who's having the breakdown GBS.....Too much sun?😂

I do agree with your last sentence tho......personally.....I am also glad you got out.....the last thing this country needs is negativity from afar from armchair economists and people like yourself.

Believe it or not I am now on your side though easy to say from here.  Got my pension out of the country now thankfully.

I think the UK must have a hard Brexit.  Only the deep recession that this inflicts on the British people can lance this particular boil and demonstrate that the petty tribalism that people like you exhibit constantly is a busted flush.

It is sad because many people must suffer for this nationalist obsession but I think it is almost better having the deep recession you and others have campaigned for than the long slow painful humiliation of perpetual dysfunction that the country has been suffering these past three years.

The politicians now simply have to raise the metaphorical gun, pull the trigger and start the ball rolling.

Still not absolutely sure that they will do that though.  Obviously there are plenty of stupid politicians but do you have enough of them to get this idiocy through?

Meanwhile in the land of reality

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jul/22/alan-duncan-quits-as-minister-before-boris-johnson-arrival-at-no-10

I think, finally, the ones who really think about the country have finally come out of the closet, maybe they might even start and turf some of the American lovers out.

Philip Hammond next.  An armchair economist from afar as Kungfustu calls him.  Like the economists at the OBR.

Brexiteers are truly the ‘flat-earthers’ of politics.

Just seen he already has.

I hope not, I cannot imagine what the country will have to endure if the nationalists get their way, the only way out would be to do a deal, any deal, with Trumps America, which is now , I think, the preferred option of many of those on the right having got Johnson in as leader they are simply wetting themselves at that thought.

The facts are clear, an increasing number of elected representatives have come to their senses and have decided that allowing a bunch of fascists to have their own way and ruin the country is a step they can no longer live with, neither for themselves or the country.

Hunt was just May MkII.  Brexiteers must have their leader and their Brexiteer front bench going forward and fully own the mess at long last.

Hammond was very “negative” though about a no-deal Brexit as indeed were all the OBR economists.  They need sound people like you to put them straight.

he was and always has been negative about a no deal brexit.....any type of brexit come to that......but I didn't call him an "armchair economist".....I called you an "armchair economist" because thats exactly what you are......dishing out your advise and opinion.....peddling your doom and gloom as if you think it matters and anyone is listening......you are out pal.....free from the clutches of this evil country......free from the perils of a lost fortune.....just think of all the other things you could now be doing.....all of those air conditioned shopping centres you could be strolling around.....all of those huge car park spaces to practice your reverse parking in......all of those melanoma clinics you could be visiting.....never a dull moment.

Hmmmmmm, I assume from your antipathy that you may may not be in Australia. Are you?

You know something that this thread has helped me with, it has helped no end in understanding nationalism and populism and how it is so easily peddled.

I'm agog to see how this plays out, will everyone simply roll over or will there be some brave individuals stand up the thuggery or will we just all go over the precipice..

But all the so called experts that you are saying have told us what will and won’t happen have got it completely wrong up to now . Let’s take the experts view on the vote if it was leave it was going to be Armageddon in their view , now the uk have just increased its contribution by 2.6 billion last financial year , this contribution only goes up if country is doing well ?

You've forgotten your own stock answer.  We haven't left yet. After 3 years for the "easiest deal in the world".

And now the arch conspirator will be in charge and promising to renegotiate the agreed agreement when the EU folds in the face of a no deal threat, just as we need the French navy to patrol the strait of Hormuz.

Well the Tories thought cutting and cutting had no consequences and gave them everything they wanted, well it's coming round to bite their spheres off..
