Debt in different states

Hi all Ive been told that if you have debts in one state then move to another one they can't chase you for the debt this can't be right surely as I thought even thou they may have their own laws etc in different states surely over all things like debt would cover Australia as a whole my relative lives their and said it's true and they gonna move I'm trying to find out if this is true as trying to stop them moving and doing something stupid.

As far as i know no it's not true the debts will follow eventually. Especially if they are for things like utilities, credit card, phone plans etc. In fact they will most likely end up on a bad credit list and even something as simple as getting a phone will prove very difficult. Renting a property will also most likely be hard too.

No its not true. 

People can be chased for debts even if they change countries, so changing states is nothing.
