Any positive stories for those failing character reqs?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

looking for any information on best route to obtain visitor visa if you fail character test based on having a substantial criminal record.  Sentence was 24 months for assault back in 2007 so now spent but know this still must be disclosed.  Is there any chance we would be successful in applying for visitor visa?

seems hopeless ATM but wondered if there are ANY positive outcomes for recent applications...

TIA

Might be worth getting some character witnesses lined up who can vouch for you and demonstrate that you’re not the same person anymore. I’m sure I’ve read similar posts that have had positive outcomes. Good luck

Vetassess submission 31/1/2016; Vetassess positive outcome 29/4/2016
State sponsorship submission 2/5/2016; granted 3/8/2016
Visa filed 5/9/2016; CO contact 25/10/2016; Visa granted 28/10/2016
Visa activated 17/08/2017
Big move.... 5/9/ 2018

May also be worth asking a reputable migration agent if there is anything to be done or that might help.

Under the new minister, it is getting harder to be granted a 'character' waiver, but it is not impossible.

I also think 2007 is considered pretty recent when it comes to past convictions... Maybe if it was 1987

Thanks for the replies.

There doesn't seem to be any positive stories about obtaining a waiver so I wonder if it's ever achieved and if so, what are the factors that would mean granting the waiver versus being refused?

Maybe 2007 is too recent anyway going by previous posts...
