When it gets really hot in the UK it's usually (probably always) due to hot dry winds blowing in from the continent, so the humidity isn't too bad.  E.g. the Met Office are forecasting a maximum of 38 deg C in London for today (Tues 19th Jul), but the humidity is only forecast to be 18% or 19% at that time.

But don't worry, it's forecast to be cool and grey again tomorrow.

Depends which part of the UK.  My sister in Edinburgh says it is overcast 31C and 65% humidity,  My friend in south west Scotland (where I'm from) says it's 24C overcast and 55% humidity and my friend in North Yorkshire, 40C sunny and 65% humidity.

Mild -3.2 C this morning.  Currently 11.7, no wind and not a cloud in the sky.  Wish I was up in the mountains!

The heatwave isn't really getting as far as Scotland - I don't think that 24C counts as hot even there? - but the forecast for Richmond Yorks at 3pm today is 38C with RH of 20% ... falling to 29C and 42% by 4pm with the wind veering to the west.

Even so, 65% is relatively dry for Edinburgh (depending on what time of day we're talking about) - July average there is about 80%.

The only time I have ever been sunburnt was as a child in Scotland.  Nose and shoulders peeled.  ☹️  Been very careful ever since.

Used to have some very nice summers in SW Scotland but it could get humid and always the bloody midges around especially in the evenings.  We lived near a river and a big wooded area  .....  the midges love that sort of environment.

Any temp over 25C is too hot for me.

I remember Billy Connolly once saying something about Scots seeing the sun so rarely that they need to put on a welding mask for protection when it does come out.

I'm the other way round.  Prefer it above 25C and below 20 is definitely chilly for me.  Probably my Spanish blood.

Does it cool down much at night?

Last night I think it went down to 25 degrees but I’d forgotten how hot it is in the bedrooms upstairs!  It was like being back in a Bendigo summer!

Forecast for above average temperatures into middle of August, global warming is hitting the UK hard, a climate scientist said this might seem like a cool summer in 30 years time

Some vile individual let his/her/xi/xir dog crap on the grass across the road a couple of days ago and I have watched it dry out to dust and blow away in the matter of 3 days. By this test the humidity here is (has been) low.

Might be heading for some near record lows in NSW/ACT tonight.  I just noticed it’s -5.6C at Cooma at 8:20pm and -8.0C at Perisher.

Weather man predicted 14 to 23C  for Mackay today. That is a good excuse to go fishing and try and spot a whale, or two.

Cheers, Bobj

August set to carry on the trend of oppressive heat, everything is brown and hose pipe bans already in the south.

Hosepipe bans more to do with uncontrolled population growth, massive programmes of house building over the last 10 years and an aging infrastructure that simply cannot cope.  No one is willing to accept what stress mass uncontrolled immigration puts on the environment - ecological as well as socioeconomic.

I know I get easily confused but does global warming cause more or less typhoons?

A lack of investment into infrastructure is the only problem, the other two reasons are untrue.

It rains for 1 day in 3 on average in the UK and there is ample water to support a much bigger population.

The problem is that it's not managed well and is allowed to drain away untapped, plus culturally there is ignorance. How many people have water tanks in their gardens to collect run-off? Not many i'd guess.....a 1500 litre tank is about 300 quid, no hosepipe ban then.

Inefficient management of water is a big problem in the UK.  Population density is also a misnomer...I believe you're in Kent?  Less than 500 people per sq km?  That is not dense by any measure, it's just bad planning.
