Skani
Helpful info for the process in NSW: http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/transfer/index.html http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/biz_res/ftweb/pdfs/About_us/Publications/FT409_Buying_a_used_car.pdf
HibiscusDreams
Main thing to bear in mind is that rego costs go by vehicle weight. The 4WD might look great fun, but if you aren't going to use it off road, you are getting hammered for it every time you renew. Exact categories for the weights and charges are a state thing though and it varies. NSW is talking about giving rebates if you run up a lot of tolls. Chips1759
MOT here is a Road Worthy Certificate. Normally the car seller would get this renewed and my advice would be not to purchase a car without one..buyer beware! You will need one to register the car...same as an MOT. It's not renewable each year like an MOT. But that's no reason to drive an un-road worthy car. If stopped by the vehicle compliance officers you could end up leaving your vehicle behind. And be issued a notice.
Bulya
Not a good idea to buy roadside. How will you organise a PPI etc? Can you afford to write off the money if it’s a lemon? Beware!
