Perth Primary Schools

Recommended Posts

Hi All - my family and I are moving to Perth in Jan 2018. I am in the process of looking for a primary school for my 3 children (yr 4, and twins in yr 2). If you rent a house in a catchment area, does the local school have to accept you? Thanks for any comments, Cat.

As long as you are in the catchment area they should find a place for you.

Thank you - just working out which comes first, securing a house or school place.

You can use https://www.det.wa.edu.au/schoolsonline/home.do to help with catchment areas

The 'Search by an address' facility is primarily to help you as a parent find the school where your child is guaranteed a place. This guarantee of a place is based on your child’s usual place of residence.

WA Dept of Education School enrollment policies are detailed in http://det.wa.edu.au/policies/detcms/policy-planning-and-accountability/policies-framework/guidelines/enrolment-frequently-asked-questions.en

There's also info about 'Local Intake' schools on the attached pdf

Declaration of local-intake areas for schools 2017.pdf

Schools will accept students outside of catchment areas only if there are places available. However, in the last couple of years this has been tightened up and it is increasingly hard to do.

If you live in the catchment area then you are guaranteed a place pre-primary to year 12 at primary and secondary level.
