Bound4Tassie
I can remember in the past reading that migrants should bring coat hangers over from the UK. Are they really that expensive in Aus/Tas??! Do shops not give them out when you buy clothes like they do here? I'm overrun with them here but they're awkward to pack! Guest
Shops don't tend to put them in your bag or ask you if you'd like the hangers, no. So yes, you can find yourself short. However, Ikea sell decent ones, for a good price. And most big stores will sell them.. A few dollars a pack. So yes, bring the good ones, especially the big wooden type and skirt/trouser ones but don't feel you need to stock up on masses of extras as you can always get more if you really need them. Guest The Pom Queen
Lol @Bound4Tassie it was me who use to tell everyone this. I threw hundreds away and then when we got here we had to buy them. Back then they were around $2 each, but places like Kmart and BigW now do a pack of 12 for that price. Take a peak here http://www.kmart.com.au/product/pvc-hangers---pack-of-12/686341
vickyplum
Kmart do a pack of six wooden hangers for five bucks. I've got a mix of those and the plastic ones like The Pom Queen has posted. Really nothing to be at all concerned about!!
Toots
The Reject Shop at Fourways in Devonport do 3 wooden ones for $2.50 and 3 padded ones for $3.50. As Vickyplum says Kmart is good too. There is a Kmart in Devonport.
Bound4Tassie
Lol! I won't panic then! I was just clearing out a wardrobe and have about 4 million hangers in there! I think I'm safe to leave them behind!
Guest
I threw out the plasticy ones but kept the wooden / sturdy ones. Put quite a few in the outside zipper part of each of our suitcases and glad I did (put the others in the shopping container). Used the ones packed in the suitcases whilst we were in temp accommodation and then when we moved into our rental. Used them also as a way to dry clothes inside as we had packed our clothes horses in the shipping container also. Yes it's not a lot of money to replace these things (given how much you spend to move out here) however felt good to not throw out / give away good usable household items and any saving is a good saving.
