Mobile phone.Internet in fact anything you care to mention.Is rubbish.We are even watching the same repeated Movies on TV all the time. We were watching 30 years ago. Xmas they had all the best they had to offer over the Xmas Holiday. The biggest treat. Was Faulty Towers on for hours on end.. Australia had 4G before the UK, and I've got a fibre into the home with 100Mb upload (the UK average is less than 4Mb/s with Virgin cable) . They also invented WiFi here and plan to roll out 5G before the UK. The difficulty in Australia is that there are a small number of people over an area that's about 30 times larger than the UK, so it's far more difficult for any company to make a profit unless they charge high prices, and more difficult for a bank to back investments. The UK is basically a saturated market of compressed people in small spaces....lots of profit to be made, lots of customers and lots of competition to keep prices down. You're right about the TV, but who the hell is going to be watching TV in 5 years anyway? Get outside and have a proper life. I guess they figure we should be outside doing other things and not hunched up watching tv. There's always Netflix etc if you are desperate. As to the internet speed, we have a great speed and no worries at all BUT we are not on the dreaded NBN yet. We don't want it, it is being forced on us unwilling participants. Talk about dictatorship- more and more Australia is it.You cannot live a life these days without being interfered with by lousy governments who like to be paternalistic. On a 50/25 plan with Aussie Broadband ( a big selling point was it has an office in the town where I work). Average about 45/20. The big difference for me is drop outs are rare and there is no buffering involved whilst streaming. $75/month for 500gb (only exceeded once) is not bad considering I don't have to pay for landline anymore. It's faster than ADSL but whether it's fast compared to other countries is unknown. Had a mate visit from Scotland and one from HK and they were unimpressed but that was a couple of years ago. At the end of the day, as long as the service is reliable and allow you to do what you want (eg watch netflix and use your smart TV, talk to my mum on viber...for my family), having 25/12, 50/25, 100/50 is irrelevant...except for the price, of course! 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I suspect that those who are happy with NBN just get on with it, whilst those who are not make their voices heard. I feel it necessay to redress the balance a little. If the NBN was as totally crap as so many seem to suggest they would have ended the rollout. In our neck of the woods most of those who are still waiting to be hooked up are desperately jealous of us as we were amongst the first postcodes to get it. I have to agree completely, our ADSL was appalling, we switched over in May of last year, loads of teething trouble but now we can consistently use the internet. sometimes it slows....however 95% of the time its great now we are on 20/50 with speed boost with Foxtel. we are on FTTN. I currently get a steady speed of around 75mbps on my home network in England and believe me I make good use out of it. I am scared of what speeds I would be expecting after the move.. and certainly when I visited my girlfriends family in Queensland I twitched a little when they were showcasing me their beautiful 4K TV... but then downsizing the stream to 480p. @Cerberus1 you live in Brisbane right? Is it possible to get a very high broadband package, something 50MBps+ on NBN and expect a similar speed in return or are they limited to like 8, 12, 25 etc like some others suggested? The other question I'd like to ask is what providers are recommended? The internet is a big factor in that IMO. Especially for the younger generation who've grown up with it. Luckily for our family and most of the people we know and hang around with we live in a great suburb close to the beach and do lots of exercise. So obesity isn't something we worry about. First time I've ever seen broadband speeds mentioned as a concern in emigrating decisions. When we moved over, he bought a fantastic house, only to be discover there were no ADSL ports available and all we could get was ISDN - which would make running a business from home impossible.
