Bound4Tassie
I will be self employed in Aus. I have no clue about private pensions....but clearly it's something I need to get my head around! Where do you even start with looking for one? I will be in Tassie if it makes any difference.
NickyNook
Industry super funds are often recommended as they tend to have lower fees and perform just as well as the big funds. All banks and large insurance companies also offer super funds for self-employed people if you want to check them out. Why not google 'Industry super fund for your industry' (substituting the name of your employment industry/profession, of course), and see what pops up? Or alternatively, look here: https://www.industrysuper.com/choose-a-fund/ There are also comparison sites which will compare the performance of all of the funds so you can pick one that has a good track record - here is one: https://www.canstar.com.au/superannuation/
Skani
This would be a good place to start: https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/superannuation-and-retirement/how-super-works/super-contributions/super-for-self-employed-people
