Parley
Every tenant in Victoria will have the right to have a pet in their rental property under sweeping reforms to the state's tenancy rules, which will also prohibit real estate agents from soliciting higher bids for rent. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-08/victorian-tenants-allowed-pets-in-rental-properties/9027000
AJ
If I was a landlord in Melbourne I would sell rather than let a tenant have pets in the property.
Guest
That maybe the law however given the choice between someone with a pet and someone without the non pet owner will always win out.

The same applies to children I would prefer animals as opposed to some children!
Nemesis
Great news for tenants who are allergic to animals, move in and find the place has fleas, or a carpet coated in pet hair.
Evandale
Carpets and animals imo are a no no... much healthier with wooden and/or tiled floors. The dirt that prevailed from Rug Doctors was gag making lol
Parley
I presume a landlord will not even be allowed to ask if a tenant has a pet. And even if a tenant didn't have a pet at the start they could always buy one late if they chose. A tenant pays a bond anyway which is there to protect the landlord against any damage. They can also take out landlord's insurance.

Regarding Landlord's insurance there lies the problem they will have the usual stipulations!
starlight7
I wouldn't be happy with dogs, either, unless they lived outside. They smell, most of them.
