maxia066
Hi all, Just had a date through for medicals, and wondering what it involves and how long it takes? Especially looking for info for kids, we've got 2 very young ones so want to be able to prepare them a bit so they know what'll happen. Thanks! Guest
Its nothing too OTT so don't fret. Depending on the ages of your children it will vary a little. IIRC it was just the usual, height, weight, knee reflex, BP, quick listen on the chest, eyes and so on. May be a urine test, not sure what age they want that from. Pretty basic and its not really any different to a check up at your own GP or with the HV IMHO. As to how long it takes, depends on you and the xrays etc. Adults will need longer as its blood test, chest xray, urine sample and other things. Plus giving your medical history to the Doctor to enter into the system. Also if any of you have any ongoing medical issues that need declaring you need to do so and bring along any info/paperwork etc for it. Perhaps give the clinic you are attending a call and ask them how long to allow roughly? Each place may well run a different system. From here https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Heal/meeting-the-health-requirement/health-examinations The table below outlines health examinations that you and members of your family unit (if applying to migrate with you to Australia) will generally be required to undertake. From left. Aged under 2 years Aged 2 or more but under 11 years Aged 11 or more but under 15 years Aged 15 or more years Aged under 2 years Aged 2 or more but under 11 years Aged 11 or more but under 15 years Aged 15 or more years Medical examination Medical examination Plus if you are from a higher risk country for TB or are applying for a refugee or humanitarian type visa - TB Screening test (TST or IGRA)** Medical examination Chest x-ray Medical examination Chest x-ray HIV test
ABG
The examination of my kids was pretty simple. Height and weight, Dr listened to their chests, abdominal examination (kids thought they were going to get tickled), then basically just observed them for anything out of the ordinary.
