Does it really matter though, if you want to live in London, live there, if you want to live in Perth, live there!  Does it matter that the place you want to be in will cost you 50 bucks a week more at the supermarket?

I think for some who have a strict budget it could make a huge difference. However, people have to remember to factor the rubbish exchange rate and I can only see it getting worse.

Well some may well think so. To compare one of the worlds alpha cities, London with Perth, and come up with a similar or higher cost of living for the latter, speaks heaps. We are being right, royally ripped off here in Perth.

This would have been inconceivable not long back. What is amazing is an acceptance of this being fact. Even acceptable.

Why are they using an expat specific venue for coffee (e.g.) .. where are you getting the shopping prices from kate?

It's a standard template they use throughout the world which relies on the public to input the data as far as I can see. The links worked to the source on the others, not sure why it doesn't on this. Here it is https://www.expatistan.com/price/rent/perth-australia

But, like I said, it's based on a crap exchange rate and doesn't factor higher incomes for most careers

As you say, it looks like people just add the prices - in this case 223 people have added prices - not sure if they verify them or not.

It's a tough one comparing stuff. Clearly, there's heaps more to do in London than Perth. But then, consider housing. We live overlooking a Lake, short drive to the Ocean etc. my mate paid similar for a 2 bed flat in Balham. No amount of things to do/places to go is going to sweeten that one, and he'd admit as much.

Perth is a rip-off due to isolation and the fact that Aussie government-fuelled duopolies are allowed to fleece people. But, get over it.
