What's the reality of finding carpentry work likely to be? Also how much better/worse off is the difference in wage v living compared to south coast England?

We are at the early stages of planning so advice on where the place to go is welcomed. We would move to where the work is and good schools as have two children at primary school. It has been suggested that we can plan ourselves others have said use a specialist.we are looking to go to a exhibition about moving to oz soon. It's quite over whelming and not sure how to start?

If you are just at the planning/start of the process then the first step is to check if you are eligible for a visa.  This may determine whereabouts you go in Australia as well due to visa restrictions.  Australia is a vast country and areas are very different.  Have you been to Australia before?

You can go on migration sites and often they will have a 'calculator' to see if you get the points.  An exhibition may be a good idea as a starter, but I wouldn't take everything they say as gospel and use it as a guide.  We were told at one of these events, that we were not eligible to migrate and couldn't get the points which was completely untrue.  I also met up with a couple who came over to Adelaide on a reccie who asked to meet up with me for honest advice about their job/career prospects if they moved over here.  They had been advised by an 'expert' they would both earn $100k a year and have no trouble getting work, in my opinion this was completely untrue and the salaries quoted were a massive exaggeration of what they could earn.

Thanks so much for your help. We checked the calculator and had a brief chat with an 'expert' who confirmed that we would have the points to move due to my husbands job. We travelled around Oz 10 years so know we don't won't to be in the heart of the city with too much hustle and bustle but equally don't won't to be totally out of touch. It's so difficult to actually pin point the exact location to move to. With young kids the work life balance and health care is top priority. Walking distance to a beach would be an added bonus as would new experiences etc.
