Quoll
No, happily retired from Education now, thank heavens, but after a life time still have acquaintances in the field. It's not an occupation I would be recommending to either of my kids. Teaching doesn't require a high yr 12 score so it's almost the last resort of some students to get into Uni hence the numbers being churned out, a great percentage of which will not get jobs. Departments do like new grads when they do their recruitment though because they cost less and are likely to be less demanding with placements if they are desperate for work. In some states self managing schools will go for the cheaper options and short term contracts so they don't have to fork out holiday pay. Having been around a while I've seen some very talented and experienced and, in one case, highly specialised teachers move states and still not have a permanent job several years down the track. My sister in law has a specialised early literacy qualification and has gone from short term contracts now to nothing. In Australia merit is not necessarily the basis on which jobs are allocated! If you've got a permanent position where you are take a career break, do not quit.

Do you mind me asking which Visa route you took and whether you ever managed to get permanent work? Many thanks. Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz Yes I was in Sydney for 2 years, only on a working holiday visa. So maybe that might have restricted my prospects a bit. I'm almost finished my Masters now and then I'll be applying to return on a 189 as an SEN teacher. If you're willing to work in SEN then you probably have more chance of getting something long term, I did 2 full terms in one SEN school out west and was a regular at another in Bondi after that. I know lots of the feedback on here is a bit negative but I think if you're lucky then something can definitely work out!

The client's claims equal 65 points" - regardless of if I select yes or no for the one year relevant teaching experience I have.Which makes me think, would my EOI stand out more as I would be selecting that I have some sort of relevant experience? If my points total 65: age 30, degree 15, ielts 20, then I would not be claiming points for experience. I that makes sense. I would ofcourse be able to provide evidence for the one year relevant experience I have. But i would not be required to satisfy the points for the employment as the final points total of 65 does not include this? It looks like I wouldn't be claiming unecessary points for employment if i select yes for that one year? What do you think? Thanks! You have 65 points, without 'Experience Related Points'? It doesn't make a difference how those points are accumulated. B

TeacherClem
Can I just ask if you did the form 80? Also, did you get letters from past employers detailing your employment or did you just use payslips etc as proof. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
Kev147
Nobody asked for form 80. I had to get Glasgow council and East Dunbartonshire council to write letters to prove I worked there. This is as well as payslips (actually stamped printouts because I shredded a lot of old payslips). They were ok about it. I also needed old P60s but I had those. TeacherClem
Hi all! We had an email asking for our police checks and medicals this morning [emoji16] relieved to finally hear something from them. We're getting those sorted now.The only thing I feel I could add more detail too is references regarding my employment history. Can anyone tell me how much detail their employers put into their letters? For example did they just say 'x worked for y from (date) to (date) employed as (xxx)' or did the letter go into a lot of detail about the job you did? Many thanks for your much needed help [emoji16]Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
Kev147
Employers references (as in council or LA) were very brief but I did include Head teachers references too. They were quite detailed Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
ruth farnworth
Hi, I'm a Secondary Teacher and have 60 points. I wondered if I could maybe get 5 more points for three years SEN experience? Can anyone help???? Thanks.
TeacherClem
I can't really help you there but hopefully someone can! Maybe worth starting a new thread to get more attention. I know you can boost your points with the language test but not sure which section SEN experience would give you more points in unless it's under work experience in Australia? Guest Anna9879
Hi Guys, I have a PGCEI, from the University of Sunderland, which was basically the same as a regular a PGCE course but the 12 week teaching practice was not done in UK, hence was not given QTS. I'm considering migrating to Australia and was wondering whether, PGCEI is recognised by AITSL? even though it doesn't have QTS status, its contend is the same and has more than 45 days of supervised teaching. Do you have a three year degree and was the teaching qualification full time for a year (or equivalent)? As long as you have the required evidence regarding the supervised teaching I can't imagine it would make any difference where you completed this. I am not a migration agent though, just someone that has recently completed the application.

It is a 140 credits course. So QTS is not required by AITSL? did you submit your QTS certification? and how long did it take for the whole process to be completed? And congrats Edited October 1, 2017 by Anna9879

Have you downloaded the application form? There is a tick list of documents you need to send.

Have had a look at the application form, I seem to meet the requirements, stated there, but read in some forums that PGCEi would not be accepted since its not accredited as a teaching qualification in the country it is awarded in(UK)

I personally think from what you have said that your qualification meets the criteria but I understand why you want some more reassurance as it's an expensive gamble if you are not 100% sure. Havnt emailed them yet, but planning to call them up tomorrow morning. the PGCEi is from Sunderland. https://www.sunderland.ac.uk/study/education/pgce-international-dl/ My other concern is that it is stated as 34 weeks on the website, even though it was from September to June. You send a copy of your academic transcript and letter from the university detailing the course for the year you completed it so it won't matter what it says on the website.
