Socialist state!!!!!!!!!!!

Last time I looked the courts and judges were independent of political control

You're having a laugh Labor have held power 13 times in 44 elections since 1894, the Labour govt of the last 20 years has been DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED 6 out of 7 times by THE PEOPLE who it seems are impressed by Labor policies.

Your post sounds like a bit of a extreme right rant, or don't you like democracy when it doesn't deliver the result you want, what would you like political control of the courts so you can decide who is guilty

And before you start bleating on about me picking on you, I'm just pointing out the facts

Well I live in Melbourne and last time I checked Labour are in power

The HC recognised that there were grounds mainly in terms of how the the Victorian court, prosecuted the case against Pell .

I repeat - the High Court hasn't yet recognised any such thing.  Two High Court judges have determined that his request to appeal should be referred to the full bench of the High Court - ie all 7 judges will decide if he can appeal.  They have yet to recognise if there are grounds for appeal.

Really? So how did Pell get to this stage as opposed to his previous hopeless situation? What?.... the High Court had a lottery for imprisoned people and Pell  had the pink ticket No 7 ???

Anyone can apply to appeal to the High Court if they are unhappy with a decision of a Supreme or Federal or Family Court in Australia.  Most people don't because they don't have the financial resources to do it.

Usually leave to appeal isn't granted. The fact that it has been granted shows the appeal has some merit and should be heard.

Australian Labor as socialists, I can't stop p...ing myself, unionists yes, socialists they don't know the meaning of it.

Whatever tho, they were democratically elected on 4 occasions which is a reflection of the levels of concerns that the electorate have about issues that concern the electorate.

Also one thing to be absolutely clear about is that the courts are independent of political control or interference, which is something that a number of posters on here seem to be convinced is not the case and keep on trying to infer that Pell is the victim of some kind of liberal witch hunt, he is not, he is a man who has been at the centre of a number of very dubious incidents and the evidence against him has been judged to be sufficient to convict him in an open trial.

Finally this miscarriage of justice is over.

George Pell to be immediately released from prison.

This is right up there with Lindy Chamberlain as a stain on our justice system.

Judgement doesn’t say innocent, just can’t be 100% certain he’s guilty.  The civil actions will now commence

What's your opinion @Parley, on the latest for this peadofile defender?

Seems like he had selective deafness on a lot of days, what you don't know about you don't have to deal with, ignorance is bliss but no defence in law, in the the UK if you associate with criminal endeavours then they judge you to be party to the crime.

Strange how he got a top job in the Vatican, pay off for all of those years of keeping the Church out of the newspapers?

It's not a pretty picture is it

I always thought he was an abrasive character from how he came across in the Australian media so I don't see him as a shrinking violet when confronted with erring priests in years gone by.

After the bollocking the Vic Police and Vic Judiciary got from the High Court they wouldn't dare charge Pell with any criminal offence.

This is an innocent man who spent over 400 days in jail. He should be getting several million in compensation and would if he sued the state of Victoria. He won't though.

Honestly I have lost my faith in most of the judiciary so this Royal Commission findings is just another example.
