thomas.williamson
Both are in year 11 (Ages 15 and 16), they are currently doing their O levels. I'm worried that I will have to make them repeat grade 10 and force them to stay behind. Is it possible for them to enter in grade 11 in NSW as opposed to grade 10? Quoll
They won't be repeating year 10 or staying behind, this is a foreign country with different education systems (and I say systems deliberately, each state is different). You don't say when you are arriving but you would not be doing them any favours to try and start them part way through year 11 in NSW. They should start year 11 in January and don't bother about the fact that they may be doing a few months of year 10 (assuming you arrive in the next few months). Don't think of it as repeating, think of it as getting established in a foreign country's education system. Kids of 16 would probably be in year 11 but given the final two years are a consolidated course with exams at the end of them and they would not have done the curriculum, you can't really pop in part way through year 11 and expect to do well. Actually, if you have the chance, it would be sensible for them to finish their A levels then they keep all their options open regarding Uni in either UK or Aus without international student penalty.
thomas.williamson
Thanks a lot, I'm a bit nervous about moving and even more so about my children's education.
Quoll
Just as a matter of interest - will you be permanent residents? That makes quite a difference in NSW. Two Senior High kids will set you back $6.2k pa each. If you are PR then obviously there won't be fees. If you aren't sure you will be staying, getting A levels before moving would be a sensible option (can you leave them with family?) or try and get them into a school that does IB - it travels better for international Unis than the HSC. starlight7
Agree with quoll- either get them to do A levels first or start in January 2018 with Year
