NorthernLights Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 We're out here in Aus on a 457 and need to wait for our skills assessment before applying for 189/190. We're doctors so this can only be done here. We are tight for points and need to know if my husbands MD (doctor of medicine) will be accepted as a doctorate as far as points goes? The MD is not the original medical school bachelor degree (MBBS) but a postgraduate degree based on 2 years research and involves a written thesis. It is not a PhD however. Can anyone point me towards some definitive information about whether the MD is classed as a doctorate or not? Many thanks
wrussell Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Quote MD (doctor of medicine) will be accepted as a doctorate as far as points goes? It will not be accepted as equivalent to a PhD. You can expect 15 points, not 20.
NorthernLights Posted May 6, 2017 Author Posted May 6, 2017 Thanks for your reply. It's a shame since the MD is a postgraduate doctorate but I had wondered if they actually meant a PhD. Better to find out now I guess, though I do think it could be clearer! Thanks again.
wrussell Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Some medicos, including the one who sticks needles in my eyes, hold PhDs.
