Is it worth taking cash with me?

Just wondering if it's worth taking a few thousand dollars worth of cash with me so I can start getting things sorted before setting up my bank accounts etc. how much would you reckon is enough to get me going. Hoping to have bank account set up within a few days of arriving.

You can set up a bank account from the UK beforehand

Other big banks are ANZ and Commonwealth.Suspect they offer similar services.

As above. You can get an account sorted befor you go. No need to carry cash like that.

I set up an account with ANZ but the card weren't there when we arrived, we didn't bring cash but did load a currency card with a few thousand to keep us going.

I set up my CBA account online, before moving. It was very simple and I just had to pick up the debit card from my nominated branch, on arrival
