niamhmulk Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Hi guys, I have a friend who is applying to do a schools direct course in Early Childhood Education which will qualify her as an early childhood teacher. Would she need to stay in England another year after her course, to complete her NQT year, and then apply for assessment? Or is that only necessary if you want to stay in England and teach? Just wondering if the actual qualification on its own would count as an early childhood teacher.
Sammy1 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 She will need four years of university education to teach here, of which at least one year must be a university based teaching course. It's important that she has studied for four years (either a three year degree and a one year PGCE, or four year Bachelor of Education) and that she has a minimum of 45 days supervised teaching as part of her course. Teachers that have gained their qualification 'on the job' as opposed to university based, are not eligible to teach here unfortunately.
niamhmulk Posted April 29, 2017 Author Posted April 29, 2017 Ok thank you.. she will have four years total and the course is done through a university and a school...
Sammy1 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Make sure she researches it carefully as school direct is normally on the job training. She would be safer with a PGCE if Australia is her goal.
