path2aus Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Hello All, My wife's parents were in Australia with us on 600 visa for 3 months. The visa is valid for a year with stays up to 3 months allowed at a time. My question is that they just left on the 15th of April. If we want to bring them back in May, will that be an issue? Do they need to spend a significant amount of time outside Australia to come back (Like in the US where you need to spend equal amount of time outside the country)? Please let me know. We are plannnig to bring them back around May 15th. Thanks.
mudcrab Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I am no expert on this but I thought with a 600 visa it was allowed for stays of up to one year. I have the more lowly eVisitor visa (subclass 651) which is the free one and, even that one, it is valid for one year and...quote: "You are allowed to stay for a period of 3 month(s) on each arrival." So I really don't think that your folks need to worry on a validity issue. I think the only issue, and it is one that I am pondering over, is...if you spend more than half the year in Australia (182 days?) it is a bit of a grey area regarding residency and tax. Hopefully others will give you their viewpoints.
path2aus Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 Thanks @mudcrab they would not be spending 182 days here. They left 5 days before their 3 months deadline the last time. This time they would most probably do the same. Thanks for that information and that really helps. It seems like they mostly will come only towards the end of this year, so I guess we are fine for now.
