She is clearly confident of winning a landslide victory given that all opposition is in disarray.

Does she have to get parliamentary approval to relinquish the 5 year  fixed term rule?

Labour have said they will support the change, which requires 2/3rds of MP's support. With Labour support it is a done deal

    Ridiculous. Worst timing imo.

Why? Labour are in disarray, they even just lost a council seat in Middlesbrough to Tory. If Labour cant win in Middlesbrough they are stuffed.

This is very much like Malcolms timing with his 457 command.

I think the reasons are in May's speech. There are a number of pro EU Tories who could cause issues going forward mainly to suit their own agenda more than anything else. But, by getting a big majority, it saps any power they had as if the 20-30 start playing games, it is no threat to the majority.

Why on god's earth would labour support it?

Good question as if it means one thing, Corbyn and Co will be announcing resignations on June 9th. My guess is that as they repeatedly called for an election after the referendum, they cant now back peddle.

There were more even battles in the gas chambers of auschwitz. This will be a blood bath.

Yep. I would not be at surprised to see Labour with under 100 MP'S

We are discussing labour support for the next general election. Nothing to do with article 50.
