Brisbane wheel ( Same idea as the Melbourne star , London eye etc )

South bank area is nice, theres a pool area, a kids play area and a little beach too

maritime museum is pretty good too

Steve Irwin zoo in beerah about an hour north was awesome, still one of my highlights ( maybe because I loved steve)

Botanic gardens are nice for walking around too

Museum of Brisbane

To be honest I didn't find Brisbane that good to be a 'tourist' in, I lived there for about 2.5 months and found it lacked in things to do within the city its self, further a field is better such as out to the Gold Coast area and up to Tambourine, Hope thats helped

Mt Tambourine definetlly worth a visit but not really Brisbane about 1 hour drive away.  South bank as mentioned or climb Brisbane Storey Bridge or kayak Brisbane river both good fun http://riverlife.com.au/adventures/kayaking/

Head north Redcliffe and Bribie Island not bad or catch the ferry to Stradbroke Island.

No disrespect but I found redcliff like Bexhill on a bad day.

Yeah Brisbane hasn't got lots for sightseeing.  The Powerhouse often has events on (take the City Cat for a cheap river cruise).  South Bank and the whole Cultural Centre as mentioned.  West End is good for a night out. Mt. Coo-tha for hikes, views and the Botanic Gardens (there are also Botanic Gardens in the city which are nice).  Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a zoo essentially, Enoggera Reservoir also has a small wildlife centre and is much cheaper (only worth it if you're staying within easy travel distance).

Those spring to mind and there are other places a bit of a distance away (e.g. Australia Zoo/Mt Tamborine/Maleny) as others have touched on.  Trip Advisor is probably your best bet for a full list

Many good suggestions already. I'd add (depending on preference of course)...Eat Street market near Eagle Farm is great for an evening. Sirromet Winery near Redland Bay for lunch or dinner and occasional live music etc. A walk out to Wellington Point King Island reserve at low tide is enjoyable with lunch in the area. QPAC shows and a river cruise.

Mount Coot tha has a lovely view of Brisbane from the top and there are the Botanic Gardens on the way up.  The Gardens in the CBD are niec for a little walk round and you can't beat South Bank (although it's starting to get a bit chilly if you fancy a dip in the pool!)  The Brisbane Wheel is always advertised on Groupon (I personally wouldn't pay full price for it).  Storey Bridge climb is fun, but you need to be relatively fit as there are a fair few steps.  You have the museums too in the CBD.

A bit further out, you have Mount Tamborine, Straddie Island, Sunshine Coast (Currimundi and Mooloolaba are both nice for a day trip) or a trip to the Gold Coast/NSW (Fingal Head is lovely, so is Mermaid Beach if you don't want to go quite that far).

Depends whether you have a car or not.  I think the CBD itself is fairly limiting for things to do, but there are loads of things if you have wheels :-)

I agree with all the suggestions so far and would add that a trip up Mount Glorious and the views from there are pretty amazing too.   Also what about a little road trip down into NSW as there are some lovely places down the coast from Coolangatta... Whytecliff etc.  Maybe a visit to Nimbin.... love that place.    I just love the whole Mt Tambourine and Sprinkbok National Park, but you wouldnt be able to get your wheelchair anywhere in Springbok.... you would in Mt Tambourne village though and that has a great vibe... very arty farty.. lots of good shops - an amazing cheese factory and brewery.... not to mention the incredible views.

What's Nimbin like, I've heard so much about it? It's all down to distances really as mum has to drive and she hasn't driven for over 6 years. She is ok up here but not sure how she will be around the city and built up areas. We will soon find out lol.

Nimbin is so hippy it could be straight out of the 70's. The roads in from the M1 are twisty and windy (well the ones Tom took me on were!) but the scenery is wonderful.   Not sure how it would be at the moment though with all the floods happening around so you would need to check it out.   Saturdays are apparently the best days to go to Nimbin because they have a market all through the town.   I had no idea what to expect when Tom took me last year, but I just loved it... The Museum there is brilliant - all about Hemp and other uses etc....I learnt so much the day we were there and I now totally support Cannabis Oil as a medical alternative for cancer and terminal illnesses.  Check it out.

Is Nimbin where they have the cafes that sell cannabis muffins etc

I havent been for years but its certainly a 'different' place to what you'd be used to. I think some of the shops did sell the muffins etc but as i say it was years ago when we visited. We travelled via the back roads and it was actually a lovely drive on country roads, much more fulfilling than driving down the highway for a couple of hours.

They aren't openly sold there, but they are available if you ask.    The Hemp Museum is very interesting and there are lots of lovely little shops and market stalls on a Saturday.   Beautiful drive  through from Queensland if  you avoid the main motorway and use the country roads.

Lone Pine surely deserves a mention, most wildlife including Roos which can be fed. Mount Coo Tha is nice on a clear day and to catch lunch in the restaurant.

New Farm markets are good on Saturday, catch the City Cat into the city, Southbank is worth a look, West End is also worth a look but is loosing its charm quickly.

When we have had family over, we take them on the river cat into the city (normally park at Bulimba) they love the views as you cruise up the river to soutbank or eagle st pier. Also, Queens park in Ipswich used to be good, with the little zoo, gardens and everything, i presume its still the same but i havent been for a few years.

Is the ferry free from Southbank?

Yes Queens park is lovely although we tend to just go to the cafe there. I took mum to Southbank Easter Monday I think it was and parking was ridiculous at $36.

We popped in to the casino the day before but it was really hard to get around in a wheelchair.
